ABOUT THE CONCEPT

I wanted to see if I could create a piece that featured both CREATOR and CREATION in the same illustration and that showed the dichotomies inherent in their relationship. I created something that works two ways when rotated 180 degrees, telling two different stories. The central figure is the creature's arms in silhouette with bandages and fabric. When they are over the CREATOR side of things, they are filled with scientific imagery and placed over a graveyard. Over the red, CREATION side, the arms are filled with imagery of nature. WHEN THE CREATOR SIDE IS UP and science is on top, the creature appears to be a dead body, hanging lifeless in a charnel house, surrounded by the suspension ropes. WHEN THE CREATION SIDE IS UP and nature is on top, the creature is reaching for the sun, craving a rich life and companionship, surrounded by the paths of celestial bodies. Shelley's written words, in her own script tie it all together.
