Meet David Edward Johnson, Artist
BIOGRAPHY
I am most interested in exploring belief systems, the birth and death of the American Dream, the nature and validity of desire, as well as identity and loss on a personal level. Visually, my work lies at the intersection of the organic, the geometric, the iconic, the abstract, and the found. All of that takes shape into mostly large-scale assemblage pieces that hover in between mediums. I feel like my body of work can be encapsulated in three words :: abstraction, definition and deconstruction.
I have shown solo at The Everson Museum of Art, had works appear in juried art shows across the US, shown with selected galleries, have shown in several cities with The Other Art Fair, had my work featured on the album art for multi-platinum-selling musical artist Andy Grammer, been chosen from over 100,000 artists to be featured in the Saatchi Art catalog, had my work published in multiple art magazines and publications, and was selected for inclusion in the London Art Biennale.
STATEMENT
I am a mixed media visual artist. The rhythmic, the esoteric, the mystic, the poetic, and the intuitive drive my work. All of those shape my aesthetic and give my pieces backbone. The breadth of the sublime, the mist of inner spaces, and the intrinsically American are also found on my canvases. My long background as both a writer and designer roots the abstract work in language, both conceptual and visual.

I am thrilled to announce exclusive representation in Seattle and Washington State from Frederick Holmes and Company — @frederickholmesandcompany — Fred himself has been wonderful to talk to (a kindred spirit on a range of subjects) and the gallery represents the work of an amazing selection of modern and contemporary art including modern masters like Rosenquist, Calder, Miro, Chagall, Nevelson, Motherwell, Dine, Dali, Quirt, Vasarely, Dean, Downs, Picasso (and many others)… And the work of contemporary powerhouses like @carlosbarberena … @derekdavidbaron … @johnandroavendano … @420characters … @vincentkeele ... @tonyfitzpatrick ... @yuliakuznetsova0693 (to name just a few). I will be debuting selected pieces this fall from two exciting new bodies of work created with FH&C in mind. SOLO MUSEUM SHOW -- THE EVERSON MUSEUM OF ART
I am BEYOND thrilled to announce a 9 week solo museum exhibition at the esteemed Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, New York. The museum's permanent collection of over 11,000 works contains so many of my true heroes from the art world... Rauschenberg... Frankenthaler... Held... Warhol... Kruger... Sherman... Wyeth... Trova... Spero... Guston... Basquiat... And SO many more. All housed in a brutalist classic building designed by legend I.M. Pei. So, it's a HUGE honor to show there for me.
I will be exhibiting my series NO ROSES IN DECEMBER, exploring memory and loss -- the 8 original works, plus a brand new, large-scale 5 foot by 6.5 foot assemblage creation on wood-cradled panel.
