SELECTED -- NEW DISCOVERIES -- SAATCHI ART

I am so genuinely chuffed to be included in the Spring 2024 New Discoveries collection from Saatchi Art! I am pleased to announce that I have been selected as one of the 18 artists to participate in the upcoming exhibition entitled “PULP.” I loved the very progressive focus for the show and am so chuffed that the jurors connected with the innovation I am really attempting to bring to the work. HUGE THANKS to those esteemed jurors ::

LAUREN SZUMITA, Director of Cantor Gallery, at College of The Holy Cross, Worcester

MARIE CRAIG, Co-Owner & Director of Fountain Street Gallery in SoWA, Boston

THANK YOU to them and to Juniper Rag for the opportunity!

=======

Here’s what Juniper Rag had to say about the show…

Let’s reinvent “pop culture”. Our culture in 2024 is evolving exponentially and art-making is moving in new directions, continuing to bridge a gap between contemporary art and the future of art. With this exhibition we continue our contribution to the discourse surrounding art and the future, exploring the intersection of contemporary art practices with modern culture.

NOVEMBER 9th THRU 12th at ZEROSPACE ....... So excited to be announcing my return to Brooklyn in November for The Other Art Fair Brooklyn’s fall edition. The artist list dropped yesterday and it’s a truly stunning array of talent.

IN RESIDENCY -- FRANKENSTEIN; OR, THE MODERN PROMETHEUS

I was thrilled to be selected for a four-week, Collage & Illustration, virtual / online residency with Kolaj Institute this August. During the residency, the participating artists will visually interpret Mary Shelley’s 1818 proto-science fiction novel, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. If you know me in the least, you know this is RIGHT up my alley.

The work from participating artists created during the residency will be published in an illustrated version of this historic book to bring the themes it raises to 21st century readers. Selected work will be displayed in New Orleans post-residency.

I have long been a fan of what @kolajmagazine does to communicate importance and vibrance of this medium. They describe the residency this way, "As part of Kolaj Institute’s ongoing Collage & Illustration project, this virtual residency aims to explore the themes of creation, identity, and the boundaries of human imagination through the captivating mediums of collage and illustration.” Hear! Hear! Kudos to them for all of their work supporting this art form.

SELECTED -- MvVO AD ART SHOW

I am thrilled to be selected as one of the 80+ participating artists in the MvVO Ad Art Show in October at Powerhouse Arts Brooklyn — @powerhouse_arts — The venue is amazing and the art they have collected for this is a really wonderful showcase of talent. SO looking forward to it! Pictures and details as they emerge.

HONORED -- NATIONAL COLLAGE SOCIETY 39th ANNUAL JURIED EXHIBITION

I am absolutely thrilled to have my work “AS A BIRD IN A GREAT EMBRACE OF FLIGHT” selected for inclusion in the National Collage Society’s prestigious Annual Juried Exhibit. It’s a huge honor to be included in the show alongside some of the most compelling and talented artists working in the medium today. It’s an even bigger honor to be chosen from the exhibiting artists as an award winner from the group. I am humbled. Very special thanks to the esteemed jurors and the National Collage Society for both this distinction and their work to foster the art form that I love so much.

The show is officially open through September 30th. If you are in the area, it’s SO worth a visit. A thought provoking and very compelling show that I am thrilled to be a part of. I will be sharing some of my faves from the show in the coming days. That is also my very lovely wife in there as well. Her loving support is priceless.

The selected piece is from a new series entitled WESTERN GOTHIC :: PART 02 — COMING NIGHT — Exploring the interplay between affirmation and darkness in the American experience through a work by the great poet Linda McCarritson. With this second part of the series, I am also leaning into the concepts of cartomancy — the meanings behind playing cards. Cards were such an iconic part of the western experience and I feel they act as a perfect metaphor for the optimism and shadow of this archetypal chapter of the book of America.

FEATURED -- CREAM SCENE CARNIVAL -- AUGUST 2023

I am so chuffed to have my series “Western Gothic” featured in the current issue of @creamscenecarnivalmagazine entitled Wild West! I have described Cream Scene Carnival as a countercultural / metacultural oasis and this issue is an amazing example of what I mean. You have got to go see this stuff. The cadre of artists they are featuring this issue is so inspiring and the lit is nothing short of truly thought provoking and engrossing. Annnnnd, it’s still unfolding as they continue to post new material for the issue.

LAUNCHED -- ALBUM ART FOR ANDY GRAMMER'S "THE NEW MONEY"

I was pleased to be able to create the album art for the new release from multi-platinum-selling talent @andygrammer — Love Is The New Money. The central symbol is the main thrust for tour merch and Andy wears it in the video, so it is was important to include it here as well. In all, a really fun meditation on what’s really important in life. Always psyched to see that collage love made manifest in the public space with a splash! THANK YOU to Andy and his amazing team! (Can you find my signature memento mori?)

CIRCLE QUARTERLY ART REVIEW • I am thrilled to be featured in the Winter 2022 / 2023 issue of Circle Quarterly Art Review. I am one of 75 artists in the issue and both honored and humbled to appear alongside a crop of such inspiring world-class artists. Huge props to the magazine for their focus on bringing this art to light. Their subheadline says it all — “An Examination Of Current Trends & Original Practices in Visual Art.” Exciting stuff!

IN PRINT -- OUT NOW

46PGS  Issue 13 + 14 • With art from my Emily Dickinson-inspired series “That After Horror, T’was Us”

I am THRILLED to be a part of this double issue of 46PGS Magazine — @46pgs! It’s an amazing source of inspiration for me personally and it’s awesome for me to be a part of it in a material way. This, Mag. Is. The. Bomb. Such a cool platform, featuring a perfect collection every issue of stunning work from a worldwide group of creators. These pieces and others moving forward will be published there. I seriously can’t say enough about the passion of those creators and the magazine. So chuffed!

For this series of pieces, I am taking the gothic horror of nineteenth century poet Emily Dickinson and bringing it to a group of grunge collage illustrations. Visually, I am exploring themes of deconstruction and mortality, underscoring Dickinson’s words. Her works are amazingly modern, presaging the mechanical terrors of the 20th and 21st centuries. SO ahead of time!

OPEN LAST NIGHT -- LIVE HALLOWEEN SHOW

Hope to see you there!

LAUNCHED -- ALBUM ART FOR ANDY GRAMMER'S "THE WRONG PARTY"

I’m genuinely THRILLED to announce and share a new project for platinum-selling musical artist Andy Grammer. I have created the release art for his brassy new single with alt-pop darlings Fitz & The Tantrums entitled “The Wrong Party.” SO COOL to bring the collage love to such a damn fine tune and such an amazing stage. The final art embodies the strutting, swaggering spirit of the song, layering live images of the musical artists with my signature blend of metaphorical objects, found ephemera, paint and paper textures. A HUGE THANK YOU to @andygrammer @fitzandthetantrums @hollywoodrecords @smallgiantmgmt

Check out the work in "INDUSTRY COMMISSIONS" in the main navigation above. Really fun!
